Bellaghy Historical Society

Bellaghy Historical Society was established in 2000 by keen local historians Mrs Patricia Lowry and Mrs Mary Breslin. Earliest meetings of the Society were held in the Bawn, the fortified plantation building on Castle Street. Later, members moved to the Old School House, also on Castle Street, where they continue to meet.

Interest in the work of the Society and its membership has grown steadily over the intervening years. The area around Bellaghy is one of great historical, cultural and literary importance with evidence of human settlement dating back some eight to ten thousand years.

Various projects undertaken by members, collaborations with other local groups and the range and variety of lecture topics provided reflect this rich and diverse heritage.

Meetings of the Society are held at 8.00pm on the second Tuesday night of each month from October to May.

New members and visitors are always welcome.
